God is Awesome and Amazing!!!
We got to a gymnasium on Friday to meet our host families. All of the PCT's had to get on stage and introduce themselves to the host families (who were sitting in the audience). Then we all received a picture of a fruit or vegetable on it in colored paper. I had a picture of mushrooms on green paper. We then had to get up and find our "matching" host parent. As soon as I got up, the first person I made eye contact with was a young looking girl who held a green piece of paper with mushrooms on it, she was wearing the biggest smile I'd ever seen!!!
Her name is Barbara and she is so very sweet! She looks about 14, but is really 19. I told her that we will be best friends for the next three months. She spoke wonderful English and held my hand the whole time while keeping a large smile across her face :)
I came in and met "Mama" (60 yrs) and Jessa (12 yrs) and we ate lunch. While at lunch Mama and I talked for quite a bit. (she speaks good English as well) She asked me about myself, my beliefs and my family. She spoke highly of my parents because they raised me so well. This was only after a few moments of talking with me.
Later, I spoke with Barbara and she told me, "As soon as I saw you I saw how happy you were and thought...I hope that is my host sister! I didn't think it would happen, but it did! God answered my prayer!" I told her that God answered my prayer as well by giving me a wonderful host family!
I am so overwhelmed with God's Love! I knew that He was at work and would answer my prayers and bless me, but this is beyond what I expected!
Later I realized that I had forgotten my backpack back at the gym!!! I had received a text stating so. The text was from my trainers and they brought it to my house! Thank God again! I then unpacked my things and made my room...MY room. Speaking of which, my room is quite large. I have a bed, a vanity, a closet, and a couple desk areas. Also...a FAN!!
They kept telling me all day that I needed rest; to go get rest. So around 3pm I took a nap. I then came out and played with a couple of the dogs (2 out of 9) on the kitchen floor with Barbara. We then ate dinner, just Jessa, Barbara and I. Mama went to play Majong with people in the community. Then we put up my mosquito net! Which was funny, because there aren't many places to tie it too, so we just made do :)
Then Carol came home from work (30 yrs old) and we talked for a while (she speaks Great English!) and ate some purple cake. I then came back to my room, read, journaled and went to sleep.
I woke up the next morning itching like crazy at my ankles. I got bitten up by mosquitoes about 10 times. I think it was from the day before when I was playing with the dogs on the floor (before I put any bug spray on). I was wearing capris, so it makes sense that it was only my ankle area that got attacked.
My family relations I believe is: Mama and her daughter Carol. She has another daughter in Chicago. The father died already. Barbara and Jessa are sisters, but I think that Barbara is just the "helper" and not related, because she does everything around the home. Cook, clean, wash the clothes...etc. Jessa only speaks Tagalog and therefore, I think, is afraid of me. I think she's lightening up though :) When she sees me now, she smiles and sticks out her tongue at me. I think we're building a great friendship here :)
Saturday I met my cluster mates at the Gym and did a walking tour to our Classroom site. Then I came home for lunch with Carol and Mama. I then went with my cluster mates to the Mall to get more "load" onto my phone.
I then came home to meet George, Carol's boyfriend, who stays with us on the weekends. We ate dinner around 630ish. I then went out and did my laundry outside with Barbara. My hands feel horrible, probably because there is bleach in the soap and my hands were in contact with it for so long. I need to talk to her about how that's not good for her skin. It's burning that layer off. Perhaps she can use gloves while she washes. Pray that talk goes well.
So that has been my last couple days.
God has been present and has answered my prayers. Praise Him and know that I am in good hands.
Also, I have internet at the house, and my own bathroom!!
LOVE YOU!!!
